I’m taking this week’s newsletter for a little PSA. LA Design Weekend is happening June 21 - 23 and I hope to see you all there. And if you’re not in LA, take this as an opportunity to tell all of your Angeleno friends.
LA Design Weekend is a roving block party of sorts, centered in neighborhoods on the east side of LA. There will be open studios, artist collaborations, gallery openings and more. I am curating two events for the weekend focused around design and hospitality.
I couldn’t be more excited to host these two pop-ups during a weekend to show off Los Angeles’ design scene :
Saturday June 22nd from 11am - 2pm, join me at Justine’s Wine Bar, where furniture designers Snyder DePass will be showcasing their debut collection. Established in 2023 by Jonathan Snyder and Alejandro DePass, the studio emerged from their shared experiences in skateboarding and music, which have fostered an inquisitive and collaborative approach to design. Snyder DePass is more than just a furniture studio; it's a celebration of artistry, craftsmanship, and the power of collaboration.
We’ll have coffee, pastries, wine and more to kick start the day’s events. Guests will receive a custom Snyder DePass palo santo bundle and holder and coaster.

On Sunday June 23rd from 11am - 2pm come to Woon in Historic Filipinotown, where Gerald’s, which typically operates out of Dudley Market in Venice will be open for lunch. Gerald’s is the brainchild of Chef DK Kolender in collaboration with Conner Mitchell and Dina O'Connor of Dudley Market; bringing fun and nostalgia back into the dining experience. Hosted at Woon, a homestyle Chinese restaurant that began as a family run pop-up born from a desire to share owner Keegan Fong’s mother, Mama Fong’s original Chinese comfort food.
For LA Design Weekend, the Woon menu is transformed and the dining room is subtly modified to capture the Gerald’s spirit. Designed to complement the food experience, the team customized RAD Furniture Duo dining stools in an electric-tomato color paired with a cream tone to create an impactful punch of color, that brings a new look to the restaurant, while still feeling inherent to the space.
There will be a full a la carte menu for food and drinks. Join us to check out the collection while enjoying oysters, crudo, tostada, yuzo floats and more.

For both events, I am excited to launch Corner Booth x Trash Gurl Treasures bar stools that we designed with the RAD Furniture team. I partnered with artist Jaclyn Rusher-Mendoza of Trash Gurl Treasures to create original textiles for a pair of Duo stools. The stools have been upholstered in hand-stitched salvaged fabrics, and woven into a quilted textile. The fabric resembles organic shapes in creams, blues and greens; born out of Rusher-Mendoza's daily practice of photographing tree shadows and recreating them in fabric form. With this collaboration, we pay homage to the full-circle process rooted in a natural cycle, slowing down to observe, and appreciating the details.
Love for the Stool
We envisioned the stool as the perfect product to illustrate what makes hospitality - bars, hotels, restaurants - such magic spaces. "Pull up a stool" is a universal concept that inspires conversation and community. On the other hand, it allows us to be alone in our thoughts (drinking whiskey solo...) Stools are suitable in many contexts - public spaces, at home, in an artists' studio. And furthermore, when you grab a seat at the bar, you're front and center with the "makers" and people supplying the goods. It's a very human place to be and introduces many choices of how to interact; opening yourself up to those around you, or purposefully closing yourself in. Rusher-Mendoza’s hand dyed indigo quilts serve as a metaphor for this layered experience.
